New Harvest Church was started as a home bible study in the spring of 1998. As the Lord blessed, several members committed to buy a building. With the help of the Church of God, Cleveland TN., they purchased a 3,350 square foot building at the corner of 16th and Jefferson Street, which was originally a Jehovah's Witness church. In November 1998, the first service was held with 13 adult members. The church was named Faith Victory Church of God.
November 2000, with the founding pastor resigning, Tim L. Turner, an Ordained Bishop of the Church of God, became the succeeding pastor. His first Sunday was December 3, 2000.
Changes began to take place including remodeling the sanctuary to add a choir area to the platform. Perhaps the most noticeable change was the church name. In June 2001, the name was changed to New Harvest Church. The church continued on a steady incline.
On November 30th, 2006, after 6 years of bivocational pastoring, the church voted to give Pastor Tim a full benefit salary package, which included Salary, Medical Insurance, Taxes and Retirement. He began full time status on January 1st, 2007.
That was just the beginning of the blessings. On March 6, 2007, while driving to Lexington for a conference, Pastor Tim recieved a phone call that would change the course of our church. It was the offer to purchase a church building at the airport. The new location was prensented to our church. With overwhelming support, we met at the new facility on Saturday, March 17th. Our church members and our District Pastor attended. The new facility is 14,000 squrare foot and offered us a much larger sanctuary, a kitchen and cafeteria, church office, a educational wing with classrooms, nursery and a Board room. The Family Life Center houses the office of the Pastor, Secretary, Clerk and Youth Pastor, a high school size gym, a youth lounge, a large game room, a childrens play room and a weight and workout room. After viewing the facility, we met back in the sanctuary for a short discussion and prayer.
On Wednesday, March 21st, the church in Conference voted to purchase the new facility. Two days later, our State Administrative Bishop, Reverend J. David Stephens, approved the purchase. The next few days consisted of bank appointments and legal issues. On Wednesday, April 4th, 2007, we met at the Legal Firm and closed on the property. The coming weeks were spent with non-stop work to prepare the new facility for our needs. Some of the major changes included painting the educational wing and cafeteria. The kitchen was completley remodeled. A new sound system and powerpoint were added in the sanctuary and the foyer was redecorated. All the offices in the Familiy Life Center have been rennovated as well.
OUR FIRST SUNDAY IN THE NEW FACILITY WAS SUNDAY, MAY 6th, 2007. What an awesome day. To God be all the glory. On May 27th, 2007, we hosted a Celebration Service with Evangelist/Singer/Songwriter, Gerald Crabb, founder, father and member of the Crabb Family. Our State Administrative Bishop, Reverend J. David Stephens conducted our Dedication Service on July 8th, 2007.
